🎥 Monthly Briefings – Join Us Live

In June, we launched our Monthly Briefings to keep members and supporters informed, engaged, and connected to the work happening across the state. These livestreamed sessions provide timely updates on advocacy efforts, key issues, and upcoming events from the NAACP New York State Conference. This month, we focused on several issues before our State Legislature as they worked to close out the Legislative session. We were joined by elected officials and their staff as well as advocates and State Conference leaders. We’re continuing in July — and will be live at the NAACP National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. Don’t miss your chance to stay in the loop on what’s happening across New York  and ask questions in real time.

🏛️ Legislative Update: Wrapping Up the 2025 Session

The State Conference remains committed to advancing policies that improve the lives of Black New Yorkers and all historically marginalized communities across the state. While several significant priorities were not addressed, the State Conference celebrates the passage of important prison oversight measures strengthening oversight bodies charged with ensuring State and local correctional facilities meet the required standards of care and an update to consumer protection laws to protect New Yorkers from modern deceptive practices.

This session, we prioritized key issues across five critical areas:

  • Education Equity: Advocating for fair, fully funded schools, restorative discipline policies like the Solutions Not Suspensions Act, and reforms to ensure equitable college admissions practices.

  • Criminal Justice Reform: Pushing for parole justice, sentence reconsideration opportunities, earned time credits, and meaningful rehabilitation for incarcerated individuals to create a more just and accountable system.

  • Environmental Justice: Supporting legislation to reduce toxic PFAS chemicals, improve recycling infrastructure, and protect New York’s environment for future generations.

  • Voting Rights & Civic Engagement: Defending and expanding access to the ballot box through measures like enhanced automatic voter registration and protections for eligible voters detained in local jails.

  • Health Equity: Backing initiatives to promote hospital pricing transparency, ban harmful flavored tobacco products, and invest in public and preventative health to close racial health gaps.

This is only a snapshot of our work this session. For a full list of legislative priorities and progress updates, visit our complete 2025 Legislative Recap on our website:
